All About The Robisons
Hi! We are the Robison Family! Thanks for visiting our site! Our family is comprised of myself (Tiffany), my husband (Daniel) and our three amazing boys! Mason is twelve, Johnathan is eleven, and Christian is ten. We live in Wichita Falls, Texas. We enjoy going to movies, camping, listening to music, going on picinics, and playing at the waterpark!
Autism has affected our lives greatly! Two of our three boys are on the autism spectrum. Like you, we were looking for answers. We wanted real answers from parents that had been in our shoes. We needed to hear how other parents potty trained their six year old or finally got a screeching child to sleep through the night!
We have been blessed with so much support! We have two members of our extended family majoring in special education. We couldn't make it without the support of family, friends, and other parents with autistic kids.
Our boys on the spectrum have very different needs so they get different services. One is in a mainstream classroom and the other is in a self-contained class at a different school. One is gluten and casien free, and the other is "casein-reduced." Both boys receive occupational and speech therapy. They are both unique as all children are.
We have learned so much during our autism journey and we really want to share what has worked for us! We want to support and encourage other parents, and help others on their journey as much as we can! Please visit often and leave feedback! Thanks again for visiting! :) Tiffany
Tell your kids you love them every day!
1. Sit down and eat together - even if it is a picnic on the back porch or in the booth at Taco Bueno. Turn the TV off and sit together. The dinner table is also a great place to work on social skills and life skills.
2. Do "special lunches" for your kids - every now and again eat a cafeteria lunch with your child (Westernburger day is my fave!!), or take them a happy meal.
3.LAUGH! Rent a comedy or sit down with your kids and watch Spongebob. Let the kids take turns telling jokes. Give your non-verbal kiddos a tickle or a smile to make them laugh.
4. READ! Read to your kids - anything from Chicka Chicka Boom Boom to articles in the newspaper. When they are reading - sit back while they read to you!
5. Give them Choices - Let everyone write their "vote" for dinner. Pull it out of a hat randomly, or go by majority vote.
6. Give your time - All 3 of our boys (like all kids) are different. We let each child get their own "mom" time or "dad" time. Fishing, Guitar Lessons, Swimming, OUTSIDE of "Family Time".
7. Advocate for them - You are your child's NUMBER ONE FAN!!! If YOU don't advocate for your child, no one else will. You don't have to go into an ARD "Guns-a-Blazin'" to advocate for your child, but you can advocate for them just by being their voice and their number one fan!
8. Tell them in song - Our family LOVES music. Music has reached our special needs kids when no other thing could. Music is important to us. We sing our kids to sleep, use songs to teach them, and we use music to tell our kids how much we love them and how proud we are of them. I encourage every parent to think of a song to "dedicate" to your child. This is "THEIR SONG". Each of our boys has "their song" that we have dedicated to them. It is awesome to hear them say, "Ooooh! Turn it up! That is MY SONG!!!" So I am going to share our boys' "special songs" with you. (You can watch the videos - bust out the tissues too...)
Mason's song is: God Must Have Spent a Little More Time on You by NSync
Johnathan's song is: My Wish by Rascal Flatts
Christian's song is: Find Your Wings by Mark Harris
WE LOVE OUR BOYS!!!!!
